Test Your English

We have added this page for you to practice and learn some new things about English.

First, we've got three poems all written in acronyms. Acronyms, in case you don't know, are short forms of writing a group of words, often names, usually taking just the first letters of each word. So 'BBC' means the British Broadcasting Corporation and 'FYI' written on an email means 'for your information'.

See how many of the acronyms you can identify from the first poem. Then, in poems 2 and 3, see if you can read the strange acronym language which is often used in 'lonely hearts' ads i.e. where people advertise to find a partner.

Answers will be posted on Friday 10 April or, if you can't wait, send us an email and we'll email them back. Requests for other items on 'Test Your English', send us an email!
